AN INTELLIGENT HOUSE

How should a home, for a family that is actively living its life, function and look like?

“… but what I am really looking forward to, is configuring an intelligent building technology”, said the client after I presented all the phases of the house design process. His eyes were shining with passion.
And so it was.
Although they carefully considered every concept and design detail throughout the process, it was the house intelligence (=integration of all house systems into one interconnected system in order to achieve full home automatization with aim to achieve a comfortable living and high energy efficiency which results in low living costs) where he has outdone himself while her focus, from the very beginning, remained tuning a new home to their family lifestyle, all the time paying a special attention to ensure a well being of their two daughters.
While a well defined active family lifestyle determined the indoor floor plan design, it were the space, the specific topography and the orientation that defined the outer look & feel. To minimize the volume impact, a green roof prolongs a grassy hill terrace on the north effectively cutting the house horizontally on half. Transparent ground floor with living quarters makes it look like the roof is levitating. From the top, on the other hand, there is only a first floor pavilion, with its much smaller footprint, lying gently on an artificial lawn.
Bicycle room, carport and a toolshed are fully integrated into the composition and complement the house ensuring necessary utility spaces while many terraces serve as the intermediate spaces seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor spaces on all levels.
